Strokes and Turns Review

Start:

Forward Start.

Body Position:

The head must break the water surface by the 15m mark

Stroke:

Any stroke style may be used.

Kick:

Any kick style may be used.

Turn & Finish:

Any part of the body may touch at the turn or finish.

Infraction:

Can’t stand on the bottom. Can’t pull on lane rope.

Start:

Start in water with back to the course.

Body Position:

Must swim on back, except for the turns.

Stroke:

Any stroke style may be used.

Kick:

Any kick style may be used.

Turn & Finish:

Any part of the body may touch at the turn or finish. May turn onto breast followed by a single or simultaneous double arm-pull. Must initiate the turn. Must finish on back.

Infraction:

Can’t pass the 90°. Extended layout.

: Start:

Forward Start.

Body Position:

The head must break the water surface by the 15m mark. Must swim on breast.

Stroke:

One arm pull under water is allowed which must bring the swimmer to the surface. Arms must be brought forward over the water and recovered simultaneously.

Kick:

All movement must be simultaneous – dolphin kick.

Turn & Finish:

Body must be on breast. Touch with both hands simultaneous.

Infraction:

Underwater recovery. One hand touch.

Start:

Forward Start.

Body Position:

Body must be on breast. May also use one downward kick (dolphin) with or following the pull, but prior to the breaststroke kick. Head must break the water surface before the hands turn inward at the widest part of the second stroke.

Stroke:

Simultaneous arm movement and in the same horizontal plane – mirror image. Elbows must be submerged.

Kick:

All movement must be simultaneous. Feet must be turned out – scissor kick.

Turn & Finish:

Body must be on breast. Touch with both hands simultaneous.

Infraction:

One hand touch.

IM:

Fly, Back, Breast, Free

Medley Relay:

Back, Breast, Fly, Free – Proper sequence / Watch takeovers
