Oakville Dolphins Swimmers Make the Mark
The Central Regional Championships Feb 5th -8th 2009 was the last chance competition swims to make the team for the Provincial Swimming Championships to be held in Ottawa on the February 26th weekend. The Central Regional Championships were held at the Etobicoke Olympium from February 4th-8th. The Oakville Dolphins small but mighty contingent took their circumstances to heart and came out victorious. In addition to 8 new provincial standards from the 11 participants the Dolphins took home 3 new club records, 4 gold and 3 silver medal placings.
Gold medal winners were 10 year old Meryn McCann in the 400 freestyle and the 200 Individual Medley, 13 year old Kurt Schubert in the 400 freestyle and Jacqueline Baillie in the 400 freestyle.
Silver medal winners were 14 year old Stacy Schubert in the 50 and 100 freestyle and 15 year old Olivia Andersen in the 100 butterfly.
Club records came from 6 year old Shannon Russell, the youngest competitor at the competition, in the 50 butterfly, the 50 breastroke and the 100 Individual Medley. McCann swam to a club record in the 400 freestyle.
